Easthampton Plein Air Painting Competition
and Exhibition

May 8 – 10, 2008

Sponsored by  Easthampton Savings Bank, Nashawannuck Gallery
and Art Walk Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON, MA -- Located in the Connecticut River valley, the community of Easthampton offers
scenic beauty, architectural interest and a lively arts community.  Come join the Easthampton “Paint Out,”
a two-day event that culminates in a gallery show and judging at Nashawannuck Gallery during the popular
Art Walk.  Oils, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media/painting works are accepted.  Participating artists must
paint within the city limits of Easthampton from May 8-10, at an outdoor location and not from a
photograph.

The Easthampton Paint Out begins with the stamping of your blank canvas at Nashawannuck Gallery.
Stamping begins at 11 am Thursday, May 8th and continues during normal gallery hours through
Saturday, May 10th at 11 am.  Completed pieces are to be returned to the Gallery by 2 PM on Saturday
for exhibition and judging.  The exhibition will open with a reception at 5 PM during Art Walk Easthampton.

All works brought into the Gallery must be wired for hanging and either be framed or gallery wrapped
(painted along all edges).  Works must be sufficiently dry for hanging. Only those works which have been
previously stamped as blank by the Gallery during registration hours will be accepted.

The exhibition will include a grand prize selection by the show juror for "Best in Show" as well as a “Peoples’
Choice” award where Art Walk attendees vote for a favorite work.  Winners will be announced at 7:30 PM
during the opening reception.  The grand prize winner and the People Choice award winners have their
painting purchased by Easthampton Savings Bank for a cash prize.

The two winning works become the property of Easthampton Savings Bank in exchange for a $300
purchase prize. All entries will remain on display at Nashawannuck Gallery through May 31, 2008.
More information about the show and a registration form may be obtained at www.NashawannuckGallery.

Optional Paint Out Sites:

Participants may paint at any outdoor location within Easthampton city limits.  The list of possible venues is
provided for your convenience.

Nashawannuck Pond: This scenic pond often is considered the heart of Easthampton.  Its still surface
often reflects the trees along the shoreline as well as the distinctive slope of Mt. Tom in the background.

Trinity Lutheran Church: Sometimes called the “old stone church,” this beautiful building with its broad
grassy lawn radiates light as sunset nears.  The ridgeline of Mt. Tom rises behind the building.

Cottage Street Shops Row:  An eclectic collection of storefronts, restaurants and bars located along
Cottage Street.

Manhan Trail: This former rail line has been converted into a walking trail that runs from one end of
Easthampton to the other.  It meanders along wooded areas, along the edge of Lower Mill Pond, behind
homes and converted factories.

Old Town Hall:  Built in 1869, Old Town Hall is a historic structure of stone and brick.  It’s distinctive tower
and columned entrance gives it an impressive presence.

The Gazebo:  The Gazebo is located in the center of the rotary.  This small park is often the site of
weddings, town music events and family gatherings.  It features historic markers, tall trees and the tower of
Old Town Hall can be seen just beyond.

The OxBow:  The meandering Connecticut River has a significant oxbow along the eastern edge of
Easthampton.  Its bend was bypassed by shipping companies more than a century ago as they sought to
speed the flow of goods up and own the river, yet it remains the site of the local marina.

Community maps are available from Nashawannuck Gallery at the time of registration.  Recommendations
on places to eat and where to stay also are available for those unfamiliar with the area.
